Anne ticks ‘top up Kabbee credit’ off her to do list

Anne Thompson

Anne Thomson

We all love a to-do-list, right?

At Kabbee, we’re such busy bees who love a good list, so we partnered with the London-based blog,’ To Do List’, to run a competition, to offer one lucky reader the chance to win £100 Kabbee credit.

Anne Thomson, from Hounslow, is the lucky lady, and when we say lucky, we mean it.  Love Game of Thrones?  Anne is only the official Games of Thrones trainee seamstress! OMB!

Anne was well chuffed with the credit, she said: “Oooh, lovely, I‘ll use some of the credit to get home from all the theatre trips I enjoy with my twin sister, and a bit when I’ve been out partying with my friends from the Royal Windsor roller derby team.  Brilliant.”

After being told she had won the credit, Anne told us how she celebrated:

“I was just checking my emails while brushing my teeth when I found out I had won the Kabbee credit, so I celebrate with a happy dance still brushing my teeth!

“I’m so excited to have won the credit, and will be using it after nights out, so no more night buses for me. The Kabbee app is great, it is so useful being able to get a minicab in a few clicks and knowing the cost before you get in!”

For your chance to win with Kabbee keep an eye on our social media to see what is coming up next!

Minicab Driver in East London awarded ‘Stars of the Month’

_DSC0345

Local Minicab Driver in Isle of Dogs, East London Supports Kabbee’s Initiative to Promote Positive Passenger Experience

A local minicab driver in Isle of Dogs, Mohammed Abdul of Trio Cars, was crowned ‘Star of the Month’ by London’s leading minicab comparison and booking app, Kabbee. As one of the top 10 performing drivers in London, Mohammed received his £200 prize last week – Kabbee’s way of saying thank you for being a brilliant driver.

Kabbee recently launched a new initiative to promote the most positive passenger experience possible, by rewarding the best 10 minicab drivers. Every month, thousands of minicabs are booked in London via the Kabbee app, so it’s vital that all users feel assured they will enjoy the ride, each, and every, time.

Mohammed won May’s ‘Star of the Month’ after consistent high ratings for the level of service provided, with one local passenger saying, “I am extremely happy with this booking and particularly my driver. My car was on time, waiting for me, and the driver called me to let me know he had arrived. I had such a peaceful journey – extremely recommended.”

Isle of Dogs’ Minicab Master, Mohammed Abdul will proudly display the official Kabbee sticker inside his vehicle. To incentivise feedback, each month two local passengers that rate their journey will win £50 each, and two lots of £50 will also be given to the best two ‘selfies’ taken with Mohammed when tweeted to @Kabbee using the hashtag #stardriver.

After each journey, passengers are prompted to rate their journey for punctuality, the vehicle and the driver. At the end of each month, the top 10 performing drivers receive £200 each, and the top performing fleet is rewarded £1000 to share between the controllers. Let’s get rating, residents of Isle od Dogs!

Kabbee’s ‘Star of the Month’, Mohammed Abdul comments on what the award means to him: It’s great that Kabbee is rewarding drivers for their good service, and the number of jobs have increased a lot for me. It’s such a good feeling to be recognised for the hard work that we put in to keep our valued passengers happy.  Feedback is the one thing that we are used to getting very little of, direct from passengers, so now we are via Kabbee, it’s great.”

Kabbee’s CEO & Founder, Justin Peters, shares the reasons behind launching the ‘Star of the Month’ scheme: “The sheer volume of minicab journeys being booked via Kabbee in Hayes has prompted the launch of our ‘Star of the Month’ campaign – it’s so important for us to be constantly improving the service we offer.

“To ensure safety and quality, we put all licensed minicab firms through a tough 30-point check before they can provide quotes via the app.  Once a fleet has been granted access to the Kabbee platform, they work extremely hard to stay there, by ensuring they provide a positive passenger experience on every journey.”

Kabbee Celebrates 3rd Birthday!

Kabbee-Logo-RGB-StandardKabbee celebrates its 3rd birthday and 500,000th app download

Kabbee, London’s leading minicab comparison and booking app is celebrating turning three this week, just as its 500,000th user downloads the multi-award-winning platform.

Being the only minicab app available across all mobile platforms (iPhone, Android, Blackberry 10 app, and Windows Phone 8) more than 500,000 Londoners have downloaded it in order to move across the city, based on fixed fare quotations from over 70 of the capital’s best licensed minicab fleets.

Since its launch in June 2011, Kabbee users have generated a massive 7.5 million quotes, saving themselves over £9 million in total, compared to the same journeys by black cab.

So where are Londoners going?

With 25 percent of all bookings taking passengers to and from London’s five airports, the departures and arrivals halls were top of the list of popular pick-up and drop off points, however Paddington and Euston overground stations ranked highly, and Westminster is the top location that’s not an airport or station.

Justin Peters, Kabbee CEO and Founder comments on the celebration: “Our mission at Kabbee is to Make Minicabs Mighty, and by empowering over 500,000 potential passengers with a simple, quick and cost-effective way to find and book a licensed minicab, I’d say we’re doing a good job so far.

“We invest a lot of time and energy into innovation, and that underpinned by fantastic customer service makes Kabbee an attractive platform for fleets, and Londoners to join.  For as long as people need to move around London, we expect this steady growth to continue.”

Kabbee Buzzing with Design Award Win – Meet Dan Baird, Head of Design

Dan

“And the winner of the Best Mobile or App Start-up in the 2014 UK Mobile & App Design Awards is……drumroll please……Kabbee!”

To celebrate winning this fantastic accolade, we caught up with the man of the moment, Kabbee’s Head of Design, Dan Baird, to find out what inspires his design genius….

What phone platform do you use, personally?

I’m an Apple fanboy so of course I have to be loyal and use my trusty iPhone.

What do you love most about the Kabbee brand / design?

I love that Kabbee is the one with a heart! We’re all about being a friend to our users, I think our brand perfectly reflects that idea. Kabbee is all about being fun, warm and accessible and I believe this comes across perfectly in our design – especially in contrast to some of our more techy and bland competitors.

Do you have a personal preference for the boy or girl bee?  What’s the girl’s name?

I like them both equally, that’s like asking a mother to choose a child! Our bees don’t yet have names but the Aussie in me wants to call them Bruce and Sheila.

How does it feel to win the best mobile app design award?

It’s fantastic! We work really hard to make sure our users can easily get a mighty minicab without worrying too much about the process, a big part of this is in our design philosophy so it’s great that’s being noticed. On a personal note, it’s always great to get recognition of hard work and makes it even more sweet considering the competition we were up against.

How many of your friends have you been able to recommend using the Free Cabs programme?

Well I only moved to the UK from Australia around 7 months ago so I don’t have a great deal of connections yet! However that hasn’t stopped me… It’s not uncommon for me to be seen waving Kabbee around in a pub or club telling people to use it for their journey home.

How often do you take a cab and what do use minicabs for most, work or pleasure?

Mostly to get home safely after a night out. I quite often get distracted and forget the tube closing times, I use Kabbee to make sure I get home safely, easily and cheaply.

What’s your second favourite app (after Kabbee…of course), and why?

I’m really into my music so it’s all about Spotify. I think they’ve nailed the design of their app and the experience across all the products is seamless, making it great for when I’m listening to tunes at work.

What song would make you ask your minicab driver to crank up the volume?

If you ask any of my colleagues they’ll say it’d be something by Britney Spears…. They’d actually be completely correct. Don’t judge me!

What’s the design work you are most proud of and why?

I was principle designer on the new landing page for all our apps and this is now being rolled out to the additional pages of our products. I’m incredibly proud of our new design and think the Kabbee booking process is so much smoother and easier now. Slick and sweet!

Press release: Kabbee officially launches on Windows Phone 8

Kabbee-WindowsPhone

Kabbee is Spreading its Wings – to Windows Phone 8

Kabbee, London’s leading minicab comparison and booking app has officially launched its new native app, designed especially for Windows Phone 8, making it the first minicab app to be available on all digital platforms.

Previously available on web, iPhone, Android and Blackberry, the app has already been downloaded by more than 400,000 people, who can access over 10,000 licensed minicab drivers, from 70 of the highest quality minicab fleets right across the city.

To get it right first time, Kabbee’s Windows Phone 8 app is based on Microsoft’s design principles for modern UI, and has a range of native integrations to further improve the user experience, who will be downloading the app for the first time.

The new app uses Microsoft’s Bing maps, and has a range of new features that provide the fastest booking process to date.  As Windows Phone 8 users may be completely new to Kabbee, an animated bee is there to help users navigate the app, ensuring that they use all the great features that make the booking process so slick.

On average, Kabbee users generate over 1000 quotes per minute, giving them access to a range of options to choose from, including the closest, cheapest and top-rated fleets, based on feedback from other users – all quotes given are a fixed price, avoiding any surprises at the end of their journey.

To incentivise the launch, Windows 8 users can earn credit with Kabbee’s Free Cabs programme, which is built-in to the app. By simply sharing a unique referral code, the user will get £10 free credit for any friend who makes their first booking on their new account, and their friend will automatically get £10 free credit too! Please refer to full T&Cs.

Windows Phone 8 users can now choose from a range of options available on the app, including their selection of the provider, all car sizes (saloon, estates, MPV’s), car types (standard, premium, and electric vehicles), child seats, and bookings can be made up to three months in advance.

Windows Phone 8 users can also use the ‘Track My Kabbee’ feature, a GPS-based feature that gives app users a real-time account of where the minicab is on the map. The vehicle is represented by a little buzzing bee, which sounds a horn when the minicab arrives.

Justin Peters, Kabbee CEO and Founder commented on the Windows launch: “With new minicab apps launching every month, it’s vital that Kabbee is always delivering the best possible consumer experience, and with that comes the need for the best availability and access to the best quality minicab fleets.  We’re delighted to extend our offer to Windows Phone 8 users.”

Fred Cornille, Senior Category Manager of Windows Phone, Microsoft UK Ltd comments on working with Kabbee: We have collaborated with Kabbee to bring their app to the Windows Phone Store. From the integration with Bing Maps and the unique, fresh feel of the modern UI, the Kabbee app has been designed with our devices at the heart.”

Getting the night bus tonight? Think again….

3393-Header2

With so many tales of woe, weirdness, and wonderment resulting from what you’d expect to be a straight-forward night bus journey in London, we decided to look into what actually goes down on the top deck of London’s most infamous night bus routes.

From the rolling beer bottles and people being sick, to the boisterous crowds and flying kebabs, it seems the majority of Londoners would probably prefer to avoid these ‘nightmare journeys’, so Kabbee is staying up all night to offer a peaceful trip home for party-goers.

A study conducted by Kabbee of 1,000 Londoners, highlighted the worst five aspects involved in getting the night bus:

1.       Drunken people – 58%

2.       People shouting / chanting – 48%

3.       People eating smelly fast food – 43%

4.       Discarded beer bottles at your feet – 40%

5.       People fighting – 35%

To bring these findings to life, Kabbee has worked with a cool production agency ‘Tinderbox’, who invited members of the public to a ‘special late night event’ where they unexpectedly experienced a range of night bus scenarios.

We Bow to Brendon – Creator of the Kabbee App for Windows 8 Phone

Kabbee's Busy Developer Bee - Brendon Bezuidenhout

Kabbee’s Busy Developer Bee – Brendon Bezuidenhout

What phone platform do you use, personally?

Windows Phone 8 (WP8) on the Nokia Lumia 1020; I jumped ship from Apple when Windows Phone 7 (WP7) first hit the scenes back in 2010 – But if I’m REALLY honest I’m on the developer preview program so I am already playing around with Windows Phone 8.1 so I can get to grips with some of the new features to help make the Kabbee experience on the Windows Phone that little bit more easier. There are quite a number of features in 8.1 I am very interested to try out to ensure that our users are given the best experience they can on the Windows Phone platform.

What do you like the most about the new Kabbee app?

The slick user experience first and foremost – The Windows Phone app for Kabbee is a completely new mobile experience and utilises Microsoft’s ‘modern design’.  This is exemplified by clean, uncluttered screens and minimized amounts of text.  This is a bit of a journey for all of us here in utilising the modern design, with its foundation partly in Bauhaus philosophy we want to ensure that we continually evolve the app and give a fast, fluid user experience that immerses our users.

What do you think Windows Phone users would find most useful?

The fast, responsive feel of the app and being a completely native built app. We started with a completely clean slate on this one and the only influences from our other devices was our API. There are so many nice little touches that the app will give to users from all walks;  but the most useful feature I think would be our notification bee that pops up his helpful head here and there around the app. It’s a completely unique feature to the WP platform so I’m afraid you’ll have to get a Windows Phone device to experience the awesomeness of it.

What’s the feature you are most proud of?

Track My Kabbee most definitely – This piece of work required a team effort form the server and the mobile team to get it just right. There were a number of technical challenges which were rather fun to overcome and let me flex some of my creativity within the code. Looking back on it now and the iterations the feature has taken it has evolved quite beautifully and I’m proud to have been part of the team that made it happen.

What’s the next big thing you are currently working on?

I’m juggling several projects at the moment at Kabbee so I’m kept interested and out of trouble, but the most one I’m working on in spare time is a better messaging infrastructure within the app to ensure our users are made aware of important information about their journeys.

How many of your friends have you been able to recommend using the Free Cabs programme?

Lets just say I’ve not had to pay for quite a few cabs with the referrals I’ve made ;)

How often do you take a cab and what do use minicabs for most, work or pleasure?

Quite often actually – I live in Suffolk so there are nights when I have to catch a later train or have a night out that I need to catch a cab to my home village. But when I’m in London I can now happily use the Kabbee app on my phone without having to borrow a friends’ iPhone.

What’s your second favourite app (after Kabbee…of course), and why?

Run+ is almost my most used app on my phone. I do a lot of running and spend my lunches out and about running through the parks in North London or on weekends around the English countryside training for marathons and my first ultra-marathon in late August.

What song would make you ask your minicab driver to crank up the volume?

Tomahawk by BT & Adam K – This is the heartbeat of the desert and reminds me of Burning man when my partner proposed to me.
